Youth at the Transforming Education Summit and pre-Summit 2022

Youth at the Transforming Education Summit and pre-Summit 2022

Youth engagement

The Transforming Education Summit, convened by the UN Secretary-General, was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for key stakeholders to come together and map a new path for education, and youth engagement is at the heart of the Transforming Education Summit.

At the Pre-Summit at UNESCO in Paris on 28-30 June 2022, UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed called on youth to rally towards building a global movement for education transformation.

The Pre-Summit, and especially the Youth Forum on 28 June 2022, generated momentum and amplified young people's voices and ideas in decision-making and in the lead up to the Summit in September 2022. It created space for inter-generational dialogue between youth and key decision-makers, ensuring that young people's aspirations for the futures of education are brought to the forefront.

A youth-led and youth-organized Mobilization Day kickstarted the Summit proceedings on Friday, 16 September 2022. On this day young people shared their commitments and views on transforming education with decision-makers through meaningful intergenerational dialogues including with education champions and education authorities. Their collective voices were very clear: The transformation of education will not happen without the active engagement from the young people of the world, such as students, activists, and teachers.
