TES: Solutions Day 17 September 2022 - Call for Proposals

Introduction

The United Nations Secretary-General will convene a Transforming Education Summit (TES) during the high-level week of the General Assembly this September. It will consist of a Leaders Day on 19 September 2022, which will be preceded by a TES: Mobilization Day on Friday, 16 September and a TES: Solutions Day on 17 September.

This TES: Solutions Day will provide space for sessions and events to mobilize actions around the five Thematic Action Tracks of the Summit to take place at the United Nations Headquarters.

These events and meetings will be organized by the Member States, the UN system, Intergovernmental Organizations, and other Stakeholders, including non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and representatives of Civil Society. We invite interested parties to submit their proposals to organize a session or event following the guidelines and criteria below.

Objective

The Transforming Education Summit spotlights five areas (“Thematic Action Tracks”) that require greater attention and action to accelerate progress on the education 2030 Agenda and transform education. Each Thematic Action Track produced a discussion paper that presented the key elements of transformation and key recommendations, based on research evidence, good practices collated, broad consultations, and discussions at the Transforming Education Pre-Summit

The TES: Solutions Day aims to mobilize collective actions and initiatives around these Thematic Action Tracks, and all sessions and events should contribute to this objective. It will also be possible to hold a small number of sessions that are more cross-cutting in nature.

Criteria for sessions/events

All proposed sessions/events should be explicitly and substantively linked to one of the Thematic Action Tracks of the Transforming Education Summit, with a view to mobilizing collective actions for transformation, drawing on the key recommendations of the respective discussion papers:

  1. Inclusive, equitable, safe, and healthy schools
  2. Learning and skills for life, work, and sustainable development
  3. Teachers, teaching and the teaching profession
  4. Digital learning and transformation
  5. Financing of education

A small number of sessions are more cross-cutting in nature, such as on education governance.

The Summit Secretariat will select sessions/events in close coordination with the Deputy Secretary-General. The sessions/events will be selected based on their relevance to the Summit and its Solutions Day objectives, ensuring regional diversity and balanced coverage of a range of topics.

Priority will be given to events that will propose, launch or scale up concrete initiatives to implement the recommendations of the Thematic Action Track discussion papers.

Member States, Intergovernmental Organizations (IGOs), UN entities, and other stakeholders, including NGOs and representatives from civil society, can be co-organizers for the sessions/events.

Given the objective mentioned above, each event should be co-organized by at least three entities: two Member States and one UN agency. One entity should be designated as a lead co-organizer to serve as the main communication point. this role can be played by any of the co-organizing Member States or organizations.

In view of the large number of proposals anticipated, only ONE proposal per entity serving as a lead co-organizer will be considered.

Co-organizers are encouraged to ensure gender and geographic diversity of speakers and include at least one youth representative.

The possible duration of each session/event is 45, 60 or 90 minutes. Organizers are invited to respect the duration of the event and allow time in the end for transition to the following sessions/events, so all sessions/events can unroll in time as planned.

Submission process

All proposals must be submitted through the online form available in English, French and Spanish.

The deadline for application is Thursday, 18 August 2022, 5 pm EDT (GMT-4). The Summit Secretariat will review all submissions after the deadline, and the selected organizers will receive information about their sessions/events by Thursday, 25 August 2022.

Information related to the Thematic Action Tracks is found on the Summit Knowledge Hub, and the information related to the Summit is on the Summit website.

All queries related to the Solutions Day sessions/events should be addressed to: tes.actiontrack@unesco.org

The Secretariat will not produce fliers, distribute notices, or run other publicity efforts for sessions/events. All costs incurred for the sessions/events are to be borne by the organizers, including, where available, interpretation services. The costs associated with interpretations and meeting services will be communicated in due course.
